Administrative Zone

  • Gangseo-gu is a self governing district that was formed as Busan city expanded its administrative zone and a part of Gyeongnam became incorporated. The district covers the delta region, which constitutes the entire region of the Gimhae plain where the earth and sand of the Nakdong River have accumulated.
  • At present, approximately 70% of the district residents are its natives and thus display strong local ties and patriotism. Also, the district represents farming and fishing area and as such, about 39.1% of its residents are farmers and fishermen. High grade vegetables, flowering grass, spring onion, onion, laver, sesame leaf, dropwort, etc. are the more well known products of the region.
  • An international airport which is the gateway to Busan is located in the district and the Namhae Freeway extends through the region. Thus, Ganseogu is a transportational hub. Moreover, the district currently engages in various projects including the construction of a science complex, industrial complex, and a new Busan harbor. Once these are completed, our district will be born again as a state of the art seashore city that will play a key role in the development of Busan in the 21st century.
