Gangseogu borders along the main Nakdong River and the Western Nakdong River, which constitutes its tributary, and forms the western part of the greater Busan area.
The gateway to Busan, Gimhae Airport is situated in the district, and the Namhae Freeway and the Local Namhae Freeway run through it. To the east of the Nakdong River is found Bukgu, Sasanggu, and Sahagu, to the west of it are Gimhae City and Jinhae City, and the Southern Coast unfolds to the south of our district.

The area of Gangseogu is 179.27㎢ and forms 23.42% of Busan's overall 765.64.

• The district is located in the southernmost part of Korea and borders the South Sea. The temperature is on the high side, and the district tends to see a lot of rainfall. The average yearly temperature is 14~15, the average yearly rainfall stands at 1,700~1,800, and the wind speed is 4~5m/sec on average for the year. The wind direction is influenced by the south/southwesterly wind during summer and the northwesterly wind during winter.
• The difference between the tidal ebb and flow is relatively small, with the average standing at 1.4m. The level of extreme high water is recorded at 2.80m, and the level of extreme low water is 0.85m. Hence, the difference stands at approximately 2m. The energy of the tidal current and the quantity of tide generated at this time reaches the sandbar of the delta and as such, exerts influence on the movement and accumulation of objects that have been transported via the river.
• The Ganseo area has a low temperature variation and sufficient rainfall. During the summer season, the temperature is lower than other regions due to the impact of sea wind but during the winter season, the temperature remains relatively high because of the influence of the northern mountain regions. Hence, the Gangseo area is blessed with comparatively good weather conditions, but because the winter wind is strong and dry, there is a risk of forest fire in both the mountainous and urban regions. Also, activities on the sea coast and the sea may be restricted as a result.
