History

Our district is the cradle of the Gaya civilization, which has a long and respectable history and provided the national territory for the state of Garak. According to different phases of history, the district has acquired various administrative names including Geumgwangun, Gimhaesogyoung, Gimhaebu, Geumjugum, Geumjuhyeon, Gimhaedohobu, and Gimhaegun. In 1978, the district was incorporated as part of the northern district of Busan City and thus began functioning as part of the city.

On January 1, 1989, Garak, Noksan, and Cheongadong have been additionally incorporated, thus expanding the scope of influence of the district and at the same time, was raised to the status of a self governing region. On June 9, 2000, a new office building complete with state of the art facilities opened, and now the district seeks to build a world class city for the 21st century as an influential member of the era of a new Busan of the new millennium.
